With a variety of materials and colors chosen in the style of historic Viennese interiors, the concept is stylish and harmonious throughout. The clever combination of shelving walls in walnut with shelves in burnished brass and masterfully crafted natural stone lends the office a timeless elegance.
Operable sun-shading and natural ventilation helps adapt to weather conditions in a sustainable way, while rooftop solar panels provide power, and rainwater is collected to use in the house and garden.
The brief was open in a way that's rare: no fixed opinions, no mood board of a hundred conflicting styles. We built the whole space around a handful of materials that age well, walnut, brass, boucle, stone, and left everything else out.
That restraint took longer than filling the space would have. Every addition had to justify itself against the ones we'd already chosen, which meant saying no to a lot of beautiful things that simply didn't belong here.
Every fixture was chosen twice, once for how it looks, and once for how it wears in five years. The fireplace surround is honed marble, not polished, so it won't show every fingerprint. Small decisions like that add up to a room that doesn't need explaining.
Even the curtains were a decision, not an afterthought. Sheer linen layered behind heavier drapery gives the room control over light without ever needing to reach for a blind.
